We are excited to announce the successful mentor onboarding session for the RISE Mentorship Program, held on October 16th, 2024! This event marked the official launch of the first cohort of the 2-month mentorship journey designed to support young professionals.
The session was led by Daizy, who introduced the RISE team and provided a comprehensive overview of the program’s objectives—to empower and guide early-career professionals. With 40 approved mentors, RISE has already made significant strides by hosting webinars on career development. This cohort will receive one-on-one mentorship from experienced professionals, building an impactful network.
Key Highlights of the Mentor Onboarding:
- Roles and Responsibilities: Mentors were briefed on their roles, emphasizing the importance of approachability, trust-building, and accountability. Mentors will support mentees in discovering their own solutions through guidance rather than direct answers, fostering self-sufficiency.
- Mentorship Skills Development: First-time mentors will receive resources to develop essential mentorship and soft skills. Additionally, mentors will have the opportunity to take on future cohorts after this initial 2-month program.
- Community and Support: To facilitate communication, a dedicated WhatsApp group for mentors has been established, enabling them to share insights and seek support from each other. The RISE team also proposed setting up a feedback mechanism for both mentors and mentees to track progress and ensure effective engagement.
- Global Outreach: While RISE is rooted in Africa, the program is open to mentors worldwide, with participants from different countries adding to the diversity and strength of the initiative.
- Next Steps: Mentees will be required to present their work or ideas during the upcoming session, ensuring active engagement and the practical application of their learning.
